Christ and Families

Families are central to God's plan for us. We are his children and so we are all brothers and sisters. When we love the Lord, we begin to love our families more and more, our heavenly family as well as our families on earth. Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him. By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments (1 John 5: 1-2).

So how is it that when we "love him that begat," we "[love] him also that is begotten"? What is it about keeping our Lords commandments that brings us closer as sons and daughters of God? How can we make our marriages and families stronger? When we follow Jesus Christ's teachings it means that we acquire traits such as; honesty, unselfishness, loyalty, or "charity, which is the greatest of all" (Moroni 7: 46). When we gain these attributes we help those around us just as Christ did. We learn to love others as Christ did, and when everyone loves like that, we all grow together in unity! How great is the Love of Christ, which I strive for. The occasions that I have felt that love have been the happiest of my life. I know that if we can all learn to love as Christ did, our families will be strengthened as well as our love for our fellow man.
